What is a NIE?
The NIE, Numero de Identidad de Extranjero, is the identification number Spain assigns to foreigners. It is a number, not a residence permit and not a card on its own. Once assigned it stays with you for life.
Who needs one?
- · Anyone buying, selling or inheriting property in Spain
- · Anyone signing a work contract, starting self-employment or opening a company
- · Anyone opening a Spanish bank account, taking out insurance or signing utility contracts
- · EU and EEA citizens who plan to live in Spain and continue with residence registration
The official process in Jávea
- · The application form (EX-15) is completed with your personal and travel document data
- · The state fee is paid with form Modelo 790, code 012, before the appointment
- · An appointment is requested through the official government appointment system
- · You attend in person with your passport or ID card, or a representative attends with a power of attorney
- · The authority assigns the number and issues the resolution document
