What is a NIE?
The NIE, Número de Identidad de Extranjero, is the Spanish Foreigner Identity Number used to identify a foreign national in Spain for many administrative, financial and legal activities. It is not residency and does not itself give you the right to live or work in Spain.

What Move Spain does
We handle the administrative preparation and appointment coordination so you do not have to work out the Spanish process yourself. Official government fees are separate from the Move Spain service price.
Move Spain is not a government body
Move Spain is a private service. We prepare and coordinate the process. The Spanish authorities control availability, make the decision and issue official documents.

What is a NIE?+
The NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero) is the identification number Spain assigns to foreigners. It is used for contracts, a bank account, buying or renting a home and most administrative steps.
Who needs a NIE?+
Anyone without Spanish nationality who has an economic, professional or social interest in Spain. That includes buying property, signing a work contract, starting a business or applying for residency.
Is a NIE the same as registering as an EU resident?+
No. The NIE is an identification number. EU and EEA citizens staying longer than three months also need the Certificate of Registration of EU Citizen, which is a separate procedure and is not part of our packages.
Which documents are usually required?+
You normally need valid identification and information supporting why the number is required. Move Spain confirms what applies to your situation and destination.
What is the official process?+
The application is filed with the Policía Nacional or the Oficina de Extranjería, usually at an appointment booked in the official government system. The number is issued by the authority, not by Move Spain.
Do I have to attend the appointment myself?+
Yes, unless you appoint someone with a power of attorney. The application is submitted in person.
Can Move Spain guarantee an appointment date?+
No. We help arrange the appointment once your file is ready, but appointment capacity is controlled by the Spanish authorities.
Are government fees included in the price?+
No. Official government fees are separate from the fixed Move Spain service price and are paid to the relevant authority.
How long does it take?+
The preparation on our side takes days once your documents are complete. The waiting time for an appointment and the decision depend entirely on the office handling your file, so no realistic total can be promised in advance.
What does Move Spain actually do?+
Move Spain is a private service, not a government body. We prepare your application, check your documents against the requirements, explain the official step and follow your case until it is finished. We cannot issue the number.
