What is a NIE?
The NIE, Numero de Identidad de Extranjero, is the identification number Spain assigns to foreigners. It is a number, not a residence permit and not a card on its own. Once assigned it stays with you for life.
Who needs one?
- · Anyone buying, selling or inheriting property in Spain
- · Anyone signing a work contract, starting self-employment or opening a company
- · Anyone opening a Spanish bank account, taking out insurance or signing utility contracts
- · EU and EEA citizens who plan to live in Spain and continue with residence registration
The official process in Granada

The state fee for assigning a NIE is paid by you directly to the Spanish authorities through Modelo 790, code 012. The current amount is shown on the official form when it is generated. Government fees are never included in our prices and we never charge them on top.
