What is a NIE?
The NIE, Numero de Identidad de Extranjero, is the identification number Spain assigns to foreigners. It is a number, not a residence permit and not a card on its own. Once assigned it stays with you for life.
Who needs one?

- · Anyone signing a work contract, starting self-employment or opening a company
- · Anyone opening a Spanish bank account, taking out insurance or signing utility contracts

The official process in Benidorm
