What is the Padrón and why do I need it?

The Padrón municipal is the register of everyone living in a Spanish municipality. Your certificate proves your address and is required for healthcare, school places, residency steps and many local discounts.

What documents do I need for the Padrón?

Normally your passport or ID, your NIE if you already have one, and proof of your address such as a rental contract, deed or a recent utility bill. Each town hall can ask for slightly different proof, which is why we build the checklist for your municipality.

Can I register at the town hall if I rent?

Yes. A signed rental contract in your name, and in some municipalities a signed statement from the owner, is enough.
